Western Cycle XC8: 8 Hour Enduro Mountain Bike Race

The 3 provinces of Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba came to Saskatchewan to race, and race they did! The rain stayed away, the mud dried up, and what was left was some of the best racing conditions the event has seen in its 6 year history. 91 registered racers was a drop in attendance but with a heavy schedule of Enduro races in 2010, it was to be expected. This didn't stop XC8 from becoming (once again) the largest mountain bike race in Saskatchewan.

Most notably, the "grudge" has finally been satisfied. Saskatchewan's Jeremy Erdmann walked away with $250 and the title of Solo Male champion, the first SK resident to earn the title in the category. Congrats Jeremy!

Sasktel Max on Demand was on location for half the day, filming for a feature that will be available in the next 2 weeks. Moose Jaw times also did a feature article.

The breakdown for racers by province are as follows:
Saskatchewan: 84%
Alberta: 3%
Manitoba: 13%

Non-Race Awards and Results

  • Cody Canning (formerly from Saskatchewan) won the overall Alsport Hill Climb Challenge (Team KNK). He won the traditional "brick". Cat Horbatiuk won for the Solo Female category and Jeremy Erdmann won for Solo Male. All three took home Sigma Wireless computers from Western Cycle.
  • Cody Canning also claimed the lap record time of 36:47 (the next fastest was in the 40 minute range)
  • Bike Toss was won by "Warren" with a throw of 7.29 metres.
  • Most Dirty racer was won by David Meban.
  • Cory Elek and Christine Martin were the Gold winners for the Female Doubles category.
  • Best team name was "Cyclepaths"
  • John Gibbons won for most Technical failures (2 broken chains and a flat tire).
  • Youngest Racer was Oscar Wolf (13) who competed in the Solo category.
  • The Canondale Scalpul was won by Kim Wall!
